8 Misconceptions Most People have About Martial Arts.

May be because of some unrealistic movies, most of the people have some wrong idea about Martial Art. Lets discuss 8 Misconceptions Most People have About Martial Arts.

  • Learning Martial arts make you unbeatable fighter.

Most of the teenagers start learning any type of Martial arts like Karate, Kick-boxing, Taekwondo, Kung Fu, etc. thinking they will become a fighter and they can fight with anyone and also with multiple attackers at a time. They can throw strong punch and kick than anyone. They can pierce anything with their fingers and break anything with hand. There are so many thoughts in their mind. These thoughts come to their mind only because of some non-realistic movies.

Believe me even though these are achievable but simply learning martial art does not make you a superman with iron or steel body. You will remain the same human being with flesh and bone.

But you can achieve these if you train hard with dedication. Simple learning is not enough.

Throwing punches and kicks in air is not going to help. You must practice with heavy boxing/punching bag. You have to train every parts of your body so hard to make them strong. You have to have a strong body with super flexibility. You must go through vigorous training to become a great fighter.

It is not so easy. You can be an unbeatable fighter but it depends on you, the way you learn, the way you practice.

Remember: To become a Lion you must train with Lions.

  • One Martial art is better than other one.

Don’t compare any martial art with other. Every art has many strengths and some weaknesses. Absorb the strengths and try to learn from the weaknesses. So that you will not make any mistakes.

I am running a Martial Art school. I provide Karate and Kick-Boxing training. Some people want to learn Kick-boxing, not Karate because they think in Karate we need to do so many stretching, it is very tough than Kick boxing and Kick boxing is very effective and so on.

Remember: that there is no superior martial art, just superior martial artist

All Martial arts are same. Concept is same, may be approach is little different.  What you need is “Have Interest”, “Believe in Yourself”, “Learn Slowly” and “Practice More”.

  • Martial arts are all about kicking, punching and fighting.

Most of the parent don’t allow their kids to learn Martial art. Because they think it will make their kids violent. It will distract their kids from study.

But the main purpose of Martial art is not fighting, not to spread violence. Every Martial art teaches Block first then Punch. That means first protect then if require counter attack. It makes you strong physically as well as mentally by boosting your confidence. You start believing yourself.

Some of my students (Kids) who were very shy, inactive in school, became very active after learning Karate.

Fighting, Violence are not the purpose of Martial art. It depends on the mind-set of the practitioner.

  • I am too old to learn Martial Arts.

There is no age limit to learn Martial Arts or anything. It completely depends on you. It is true that learning Martial Art is little easy for young people but that doesn’t mean aged people can’t learn. It may take more time to train your mind, body but it is not impossible.

  • Learning Martial arts will not help in street fight and Self defense.

Street fight and Self defense are the situations where presence of your mind works more than your fighting skill. That doesn't mean that your Martial art doesn't help you ever. If you really well prepared, then you can handle the situation effectively using your presence of mind.

We will discuss on Self defense in details later.

  • There's no point in training if you're not going to compete or fight.

There are many reasons people want to learn Martial Art. Martial art has a tons of benefits. Some train martial arts in order to learn how to protect themselves. Some take up training for fitness. Parents may sign their kids up for martial arts so they learn valuable life skills. But actually, playing in competition and fighting are among the least-common reasons people sign up for martial arts.

Certificate and Cup are not the real purpose of Martial Arts.

  •  Getting A Black Belt is the end of learning Martial Art.

The first goal of people who started learning Martial Art is to get a BLACK BELT. People think that it is the end of Martial Art. But remember that:

White belt is the Beginning of Learning & Black belt is the Beginning of Understanding.

  • Learning High Kicks, Eye Catching moves must for a Martial Artist.

People think or expect a martial artist can kick as high as possible or they can jump, move like in the Chinese movies. But these eye catching moves are not real at all. Watch some Bruce Lee movies. You will find the real moves, real fights. These flying kicks and other eye catching moves are not helpful. Be real and be practical.

So, forget about these misconceptions. Empty your mind, Learn and Practice your Martial Arts.
